How this directory is built

Source

Every listing is extracted from the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) — Construction Codes and Licensing Division — public license registry file for the electrical program (MNDLILicRegCertExport_Electrical.csv, published at secure.doli.state.mn.us/ccld/data/), pulled on 2026-10-19. The file covers 109,947 rows. Listed license classes:

Electrical Contractor (Class A / Class B) — the business license to sell and perform electrical work; Master Electrician (Class A / B) and Journeyworker Electrician (Class A / B) — individual credentials; Maintenance Electrician — a limited individual credential.

Excluded on purpose (and why): registered unlicensed electricians —the largest row group in the file—by definition hold no electrician license and are not presented here as electricians; power-limited technicians and technology-systems contractors (the low-voltage trade, a different license family); satellite / sign installers; linemen (utility trade); and registered electrical employers (an employer registration, not a worker license). Statuses treated as inactive: expired, revoked, suspended, and voluntary terminations — none are listed.

Inclusion rules

Ordering (no pay, no reviews)

  1. License class held: contractor licenses first, then master electricians, then journeyworker / maintenance.
  2. Registry tenure — earlier first issuance ranks first (shown on each listing as “licensed since”).
  3. Clean registry record — licenses flagged with an enforcement action rank below unflagged ones, and every flagged listing discloses that flag.
  4. Number of active licenses held at that address.
  5. Telephone number on file (contactable businesses first).
  6. Alphabetical by name — deterministic.

There is no paid placement, no affiliate links, and no user reviews (which would be unverifiable on a registry-derived directory). Rankings reflect registry facts only.

What this directory is not

No endorsement: a listing means “holds an active Minnesota electrical license at this address,” nothing more. Confirm licensing at DLI License & Registration Lookup and permit history with your city building department before hiring.

Corrections & removal

Registry data is updated on MN DLI's cycle, so listings can lag reality. If a listing is wrong, or you are a business that wants out, email the contact address on the homepage — corrections and removal requests are honored promptly, no conditions.
